Restoring Prairie and Woodland - East Bloomington

During the second half of July, we will be removing the remaining weedy plants from approximately 6000 sq. ft. along the shared Appletree Condo and Risor Apartments property line. This is in preparation for seeding and then planting native prairie and woodland plugs in early August.  

After meeting in parking lot we will be walking to the back of the Appletree Condo Association building and working on the steep hillside on Appletree and neighboring Risor Apartments property.  Sturdy shoes or boots; work gloves; long pants and drinking water are all recommended. The becoming famous, Anne’s snacks will be provided. Tools for removing existing plants will also be provided, but if you have a favorite tool, feel free to bring it.

This Spring and Summer we will be focused on buckthorn and honeysuckle cutting and piling, branches and log piling, invasive plant pulling (e.g. garlic mustard), and native planting on steep slope areas to address erosion and begin restoration of an oak savannah. Gloves encouraged, tools provided. Meet on the east trail by the bottom of the stairs.
